Topic outline

  • General information

This course provides fundamental knowledge in the nature of atmospheric pollution, relative types, correlated effects, control principles and applications.

The interactive video conferencing-based tools are available in Microsoft Teams and Zoom Video Communications (screen share interactive face-to-face learning).

Lecture 07. Aerosol particles in the boundary layer and polluted smog Lesson

      Key issues:

      • Aerosol particles: cause more health problems than gases
      • Characteristic: diameter, number concentration, mass concentration
      • Mixing state, composition, morphology, shapes
      • Size distribution: 3-5 modes & sub-modes
      • Sources: natural & anthropogenic
      • Number concentration: changeable
      • Transformations: coagulation, growth, removal
      • Aerosol particles dynamics: condensation, dissolution, dissociation, hydration
      • Environmental impacts and health effects
